Frequent Traveler University

You are probably thinking this blog is enough of an education, what the heck is Frequent Traveler University (FTU)? I went to FTU in New York two years ago and learned so much.  I try to pass on the information I have learned to my readers.  When I found out FTU was coming to Los Angeles I got very excited, so excited I was like a little kid at Christmas (not exactly, but pretty darn close). The dates for FTU were originally set for December 7-9, 2012.  My calendar was marked and nothing was going to get in my way, that was until I got today's email stating the dates had been changed to November 30 to December 2.  I was more than just disappointed.  You might as well have told me there is no Santa. I have plans that can't be changed.  Luckily, there is a similar meeting in October in Chicago and I am going!

My loss on FTU can be your gain.  Here is the information for any readers that might be interested in attending.  You don't have to be a travel geek like me.  There are seminars for beginners and it is a chance to meet a great group of people. I just started attending these a few years ago so I am still a "newbie."

The next Frequent Traveler University will be held at the Sheraton Gateway LAX. The last two Frequent Traveler Universities (both in the New York area) sold out.
  • Cost of the event is $99register here. The event runs Friday evening with a kickoff holiday cocktail party, includes lunch Saturday and Sunday, and a Starbucks card for use in the lobby.
  • The group rate for the hotel is $105 per night including internetbookable here.
Speakers confirmed so far include:
  • Gary Leff and Ben Schlappig— you are certain to learn a ton about redeeming your points.
  • Million Mile Secrets will offer a solid introduction to those new (or always looking to brush up!) on the hobby.
  • Steve Belkin (beaubo) has experience earning tens of millions of miles and burning hundreds of millions. He’s hired New Zealand college students and disabled Thai rice farmers to fly for him. He’ll show you how to take the next big mileage deal and turn it to your LASTING advantage. Steve is absolutely hysterical and the FTU is worth attending just to hear Steve talk. Don't spend money for a comedy show when you can hear actual stories from Steve.
  • Brett Snyder, one of Conde’ Nast‘s world’s top travel specialists, will teach you all the tricks you need to know during your travels, when things go wrong along the way, how to extricate yourself from the trickiest weather delays and mechanical cancellations. Wow your friends. Impress gate agents. And get yourself to your destination with ease.
  • Seth Miller, the Wandering Aramean, has a technology background and has built several tools that make it easier for you to manage your travel, to find award tickets, and to fly as inexpensively as possible. He shares these tools with you for free! And he knows about as much of the ins and outs of United Airlines, JetBlue, and obscure African airlines as most anyone.
Maybe someone can attend and write a blog for me on what they learned.  Any takers?
