Internet Shopping Helps Earn Airline Miles

Yesterday I spoke about using an airline toolbar for a internet search engine.  Besides earning miles searching the web, the toolbar can also help you earn miles on your internet purchases.  Groupon, (a deal of the day website), is one of my favorite sites to use when I plan to travel.  For example, I know I am going to South Carolina next month, so I added the area of Charleston to my list of deals to help find discounted restaurants and activities.  Using a Groupon, I did paddle boarding for the first time in Miami. Now your probably thinking, "What does Groupon have to do with airline or hotel miles?"  Did you know you can use the airline toolbar you installed after yesterday's blog or you can click on this AA advantage shopping mall link prior to going to the Groupon website in order to earn miles?  By going to the American airline's shopping mall first I earn 2 miles for every dollar spent at Groupon. The major airlines each have their own online "shopping mall." This is another way to keep the miles alive, slowly build up your miles for travel, or top off your account for those few miles needed for an award ticket.

If you haven't figured it out yet, I love internet purchases and Amazon and Ebay are two of my favorites.  For Amazon purchases I earn miles through Hawaiian Airlines emarket and for Ebay purchases I earn with Air Canada miles at the Aeroplan estore.  These are the only two options for Amazon and Ebay that I am aware of.  If readers know of any others please feel free to post a response.

When it comes to the American, United, Delta or Hawaiian airlines shopping malls you can earn airline miles for almost any internet purchase from FTD flowers to school supplies at Staples to hardware supplies at Lowes.  Usually you earn 2-4 miles per dollar spent but there are always specials emailed by the airlines such as FTD flowers on Mother's day earning 15 miles per dollar.  Just click on the above links I have provided and start earning airline miles without ever leaving the ground.

If you are not committed to one particular airline and you are not sure which airline shopping mall is best, you will have to wait until Monday to learn about the site that already compares everything for you, even cash back options.

Be sure to sign up for email notifications so you can Travel for Less, and sometimes even travel for FREE.

Free $25 American Express Gift Card

This blog is generally about earning points and miles but when I come across something that saves or earns money I will also post it.  This deal expires June 30, 2012, so don't delay.  Receive a $25 gift card for FREE when you order an American Express prepaid card and load $200 or more on the card at the time of ordering.  Just click on the link below:

Don't Let Your Airline Miles Expire

American Airlines Advantage Shopping Toolbar
Wouldn't it be terrible to find out that all those airline miles you have been saving for that trip to Hawaii expired because you had no mileage activity for the past 18 months (each airline has their own expiration dates)?  All it takes is just one mile to keep the account active.  So how do you do that without traveling?  My recommendation is to get an airline toolbar.  You may ask,  "What the heck is that?" A toolbar is a search engine similar to using Google or Yahoo to search the web.  With a toolbar generally every three searches can earn you one airline mile.  One mile may not seem like a lot but the miles add up and more importantly one mile starts the whole 18 month expiration period over.  If you check the picture above you will see I have an American Airlines toolbar.  There are toolbars for  AmericanUnited, Delta and Hawaiian airlines.  Just go to the airline website and download the toolbar and start earning miles for doing what you probably do every day...search the web.

AA discount codes

I came across this wonderful information regarding American Airline (AA) discount codes.  In March after a trip to Japan I did the AA platinum challenge.  Since I am trying to make AA my sole airline provider this year these discount codes have come in very handy.  I will talk about the AA challenge in another blog but for now, use this AA codes link and enjoy travel for less.

First time blogging

I love to travel and I try to travel for free but when I can't I try and spend the least amount possible.  I am always looking for some type of discount or coupon.  I live in Los Angeles County, California but I don't limit my blog to this area, though at times I may post about a local special.  Some of the things I suggest may seem tedious or time consuming but when you are sitting on your free flight to Hawaii in a free hotel room holding a Mai tai you will feel it was worth it.  Please feel free to email me at travelforless@earthlink.net for any questions or suggestions you may have.
